Windows Live Writer- Desktop Blogging Client

windows-live-writerI love finding new interesting tools to make blogging easier. Windows Live Writer helps make writing posts as easy as it gets. I have in the past used several different desktop blogging clients. I think I have found one with everything I need.

Windows Live Writer is easy and does not bear my computer down with more than I need like Microsoft Word. I still have the ability to format my pictures the way Microsoft Word does. That is one of my favorite features. When I used Microsoft Word I had to post to drafts because it did not have the ability to use tags. Windows Live Writer has that ability to add tags and so much more.

Windows Live Writer has many more great features.

WYSIWYG Authoring

Unlike other desktop blogging clients, Windows Live Writer allows you to write your blog post as if you were writing it on the front page of your blog with the font, headings, colors, paragraph spacing, margins, and block quotes reflecting your actual blog. You have the ability to see exactly how your posts will look once you publish it. Of course if you want to write in HTML you still have the ability to do so. Photo

Publishing

This is one of my favorite features. When inserting an image, you are able to customize it and add your own touch of flair like drop shadows, borders, or even tilt the image. These are some of the same features found in Microsoft Word. You also have the ability to specify using a thumbnail that links to the larger image. The images are uploaded directly to your blog when publishing.

Map Publishing

Another cool feature, you are able to insert maps into your blog post directly from Windows Live Writer. This helps your readers know where you are talking when you are writing about a location. You also have the options to customize the map directly from Writer, adding pushpins, show roads, or a bird’s eye view.

Compatibility

You don’t have to use WordPress with Writer. This program works well with Blogger, LiveJournal, Typepad, and many more.

Plugins- There are tons of plugins to help you customize your Windows Live Writer and make it work the best for you. You can find them in the Windows Live Gallery.
